The Bacon Scarf - buy it for a good cause!

Dudes, bacon lovers, check this out. This bacon scarf is RAD! I'm getting one myself.

The best thing about it is it's for a good cause, helping out a friend in need. 100% of the profits go to our friend Otto's cancer treatment fund.

It's a win-win – and when you see this scarf, you'll want it... if you truly love bacon, that is.

Here's the image:
http://ottoschutt.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/10/untitled.bmp

And here's Otto's page and ordering info (Bacon Scarf posting was the fourth item down when I posted this):
http://ottoschutt.com/

Thanks!

at your 50th birthday party your friends give you 50 pieces of bacon, a recipe book with your picture on the cover and - yep - 50 recipes with bacon, AND they serenade you with "50 Ways to Eat Your Bacon" which, with apologies to Paul Simon, went like this:

"The problem is all inside your head," they said to me
The answer is easy if you take it logically
We'd like to help you in your quest for nitrate-free
There must be fifty ways to eat your bacon.
Fifty ways to eat your bacon.

Hop out of bed, Ned
Get on your robe, Job
Forget about beef, Leif
Just listen to me -
Walk to the shack, Zach
No need to discuss that
Fire up the grill, Bill
And leave it to me.

They said it's really not our habit to intrude
We hope our meaning won't be lost or misconstrued
But we'll repeat ourselves at the risk of being crude
There must be fifty ways to eat your bacon.
Fifty ways to eat your bacon.

Lay up the fat, Jack
Fry it in the pan, Stan
No need to be oy, Roy
Just get yourself free
Swallow the grease, Reese
Don't let it congeal, Neal
Just eat all you see, Lee
And let yourself be.
(repeat)

Ah, I am well and truly loved!

I am a sexy chef!

Today I invented/combined a new recipe, I call it Carbonara Provencale. The other day I watched Mario Battali make a cream pasta sauce which he then "pinked" using tomato paste, and he had a name for the process, but I can't remember it or it would ba a part of the name for this dish.

I finely minced then heavily browned a half pound of bacon, and drained the fat. While it was browning I whisked in a bowl 1 egg, a half cup of heavy cream, a cup of milk, a cup of chicken stock, and spices (salt, pepper, Herbs de Provence, basil), which I then added to the drained bacon along with about a cup of crushed tomatoes. While these were simmering/thickening, I made a pound pasta, fiori to be exact. For plating, I laid down the pasta, poured all the sauce over the top, and then dressed the plate with about a cup of freshly grated Parmagiana.

Color me sexy.

Hooray! I found the Nieman Ranch Applewood smoked bacon at Trader Joe's today, and it was only $4.19 of 12 oz...not the $8.99 that Cook's Illustrated threatened it would be.
It looks lovely. I'll cook some for dinner tonight. I'm planning just how to serve it!
Did you know there is a tribe called Jews for Bacon?
Did you know that they have more exciting recipes posted than we do? Time to get off our bacon!!! ***I****want to know more about this guinness bacon cake!! What IS French toast bread Pudding with bacon like? Where is balloonheadz..he could check that one out for us!
So everybody..go steal ideas from the other tribes and bring them back here to the purists. If you hear of a good recipe? I want to read it here!!!!
One great suggestion that I read was bacon with fig jam.
Sounds yummy. I think I will create a bacon and fig jam panini tonight. What kind of cheese shall I use?? Hmmm..blue cheese? Goat cheese? Gouda?
I'll let you know how it goes...mmmmm...
P.S. In australian slang..fig jam stands for...."Fuck I'm good, just ask me!"

What is the largest amount of bacon that you have consumed at one time??

I'll start. Once, as a kid on a school camping trip? The staff made bacon for breakfast on an campfire grill. It was thick sliced so it wouldn't burn. It came out crispy and smokey and greasy and yummy..and being late risers, my friend and I were standing around the fire just as breakfast was closing down.
There were about three pounds of bacon left . They told us to have as much as we wanted...never suspecting what bacon junkies stood in front of them. It was three pounds of COOKED bacon too.. An entire mountian of perfect slices.
We were hungry teenagers.....(It's hard to believe I only weigh 110 pounds now, isn't it?)
We ate every last piece! If either of us had drunk a glass of water next we could have exploded.
Bacon Bliss!! I don't think I ate anything else for the rest of the day, and was quite content.
I still remember that bacon pig out fondly..years later.....

One morning, I coud not take the smell any more.... I slipped a slice into my mouth, and it was all over. I have been an avid bacon lover ever since.

Hot dog, you say you're really coming back
Hot dog, I’m waiting at the railway track
Hot dog, you say you're coming home for good
Hot dog, I’m going to keep knocking on wood
And baby, I can hardly wait
I’m gonna meet you at the gate, hot dog

I fell in love with you and then you went away
But now you're coming home to stay
Hot dog, soon everything will be all right
Hot dog, we're gonna have a ball tonight
I've got a pocketful of dimes
It's gonna be just like old times, hot dog

You went away and every day was misery
But now you're coming back to me
Hot dog, my heart is gonna go insane
Hot dog, when you come walking off the train
Oh how lonely I have been
But when that Santa Fe pulls in
Hot dog, baby, baby, hot dog

Hey, did you know there's already a group more or less on this topic called simply "Bacon"? You can search for it under tribes; just type "bacon" into the query box and it's one of 4 or 5 that come up.
